At the end years 30’s, John Hammond, manager of the, at that time, emerging record industry, promote some memorable recording sessions joining an outstanding singer, Billie Holiday, and the best musicians that has at hand.

Teddy Wilson, Buck Clayton, Lester Young, Freddy Green and others… all names that time will convert in legend of Jazz-music.

The distant fragilities of Holiday’s voice and Young’s saxophone, together with the swing machine impelled by these unforgettable musicians groove the hard bakelite at 78 r.p.m. These recordings have been regarded, by somebody, as the best Jazz never played.

First performance of SandyRiver Jazz Band, also called Riudarenes Jazz Band, was on July 2005 in the frame of a music festival held in this village of la Selva, Girona, Spain. Playing the most traditional Jazz, base its repertory on the recordings made, under John Hammond’s production, by Billie Holliday accompanied by musicians of the Count Basie Orchestra, at the end of 30’s.

Members of SandyRiver Jazz Band, are 6 jazz musicians with a large experience on their shoulders. On their trajectories come up collaborations with musical groups as: La Locomotora Negra, Terrassa Dixie Sextet, la Vella Dixieland Band, Jubilee Jazz Orchestra, Maresme Jazz Big Band, Orquestra Plateria, Lucky Guri Sextet, Swing Set. From 2005 they joined this project remembering the music of an unforgettable epoch trying to pay tribute, to two key names of the Jazz-Music histoire: Billie Holiday and Lester Young.

From its establishment on July 2005,SandyRiver Jazz Band has performed on significant stages like: Jazz Cava de Terrassa, Festival de Jazz d’Arenys, Festival de Jazz i Blues de Roses, Festival de jazz de Terrassa, Fira de Calella, Festa Major de Sant Andreu de la Barca, Envelat de Vila Flora de Canet, Griffin de Sabadell, l’Hostalet de Canet de Mar, Open Arms de Banyoles, Country Club de Barcelona, Hostal de la Gavina de S’Agaró, Hotel Rigat de Lloret de Mar, Club Nàutic de Arenys de Mar, Caixafòrum de Barcelona, Sta. Cristina de Lloret, etc.
